Winemaker Steve Wells makes profusely drinkable wines, and he has a lot of fun with the labelling; this wine from the Thunderstone Vineyard in Royal Slope shows his ability to coax elegance and fully ripe wines at lower alcohol from Washington's very warm growing conditions. Gloriously candied fruit aromatics are evocative of Beaujolais from this Grenache. Sweet strawberries, candied raspberry and bubblegum notes alight the glass. The palate is lively and bright, with wild red strawberries and fresh chopped mint playing alongside wild anise and white pepper notes. It's a colourful and vibrant Grenache that makes itself a candidate for chillable red or any crunchy red fruit labels you want to apply. Delicious and fun.
