Quinta da Fonte Souto, Rosé, Portalegre, Alentejo, Portugal 2023

Hailing from the Symington's estate in northern Alentejo, there's a fleshy minerality in this dark salmon Aragonez (Tempranillo), evocative of the schist escarpments of the mountains of Sāo Mamede. There's lovely concentration to the pomegranate, strawberries and cherry fruit, with fennel adding a herbal outline. Lovely tension throughout, with subtle tannic pull and fleshy pithiness building a solid structure. Lingering flavours of pomegranate juice, cranberry, orange peel and pink grapefruit.
