Winzer Krems, Orange Grüner Veltliner, Austria 2023

Majestic offers four different orange wines currently, the other three from Greece, France and Georgia. They're all worth trying if you enjoy experimenting with this wine category, where white wine is given extended skin contact, lending it a deeper colour and more 'red wine-like' structure. This is a fairly tame example, and a bit more grip and phenolic structure would add more interest, but it's nevertheless an enjoyable wine that would be an easy way into orange wine, well made and with a faint mandarin and orange citrus zestiness, some honey spice and Grüner's typical peppery lift.
